Ryan Saunders enters his first season as a graduate assistant coach at Barry after a brilliant four-year career with the Buccaneers.
Saunders made 120 straight starts, every game of his collegiate career, and walked away as the Bucs’ all-time leader with 578 assists and second with 174 steals. His assists total ranks fifth in Sunshine State Conference history. He also led the Buccaneers to a pair of 23-win seasons, the highest single-season win totals in program history.
As a senior, Saunders contributed 9.5 points per game and was named First-Team All-SSC. He also led the Barry to their second NCAA tournament berth in three seasons. For his accomplishments he earned Barry Male Athlete-of-the-Year.
During his junior season, he dished out a career-best 163 assists, which ranks second in Barry single-season history. He also guided the Bucs to the SSC Tournament final that same year, leading the team in points and assists during the tournament to earn SSC All-Tournament honors. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Bucs to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth in school history. In 2003-04, he was named to the SSC All-Freshman Team.
Saunders has been an active member in the Barry SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee) representing the men’s basketball team from 2003-2007. In 2004, he also represented Barry University at the NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Saunders graduated in May, 2007 with a degree in business and is currently seeking an MBA in marketing at Barry.
