Paul Thompson begins
his seventh season on the Buccaneer staff as an assistant. With his well-rounded
background, he has worked with players from keeper to forwards during
his tenure.
Thompson was a three-year letterman
for the Bucs from 1996-99. He was a member of the Bucs’ NCAA Tournament squads in 1998 and 1999. In
1999, the Bucs hosted and played in the final four for the first time in
school history. As a freshman in 1996, he scored the game-winning goal
against Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn in Barry’s 4-0 win over
the Knights. The win was only the Buccaneers’ second win ever over
the Fighting Knights. As a senior in 1999, he scored the game-winning goal
against Indianapolis on senior day.
A 1989 graduate of Jamaica College, in his native Kingston, Jamaica, he
played two seasons there, leading JC to the Pepsi Cup and Walker Cup finals.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Barry in 2000 in economics
and finance. He earned his master’s of business administration in
finance and management in Barry’s Andreas School of Business in 2003.
He is married to the former Shannon Connolly. In addition to his work
with the Buccaneers, he is a fund accounting analyst at Franklin Templeton
Investments in Fort Lauderdale. In 2004, he served as head coach at Miami
Palmetto Senior high and guided his squad from a 0-6 start to a district
runner-up finish and a spot in the playoffs. He also formerly served as
the head coach for the U-17 Weston Fury in the South Florida Premier League.
