Women Win Second Consecutive SSC Title |
| MIAMI, Fla. -- The Rollins College Tars fired
a final 298 score in the final round to run away with their fourth Sunshine
State Conference title in school history earlier today at the Doral Resort
Red Course. For the tournament, the Tars carded a 900 score (300-302-298)
to lead the field of six teams. It marks their second consecutive SSC title.
Rollins finished 66 strokes ahead of second place Florida Southern who
finished with a three-round score of 966 (320-324-322). In third place
after the first two rounds, FSC clipped Lynn by four strokes to slip
into second. Lynn finished third with a three-round 970 (315-325-330).
Barry finished 19 strokes behind Lynn with a three-round 989 (319-329-341),
while Florida Tech and Saint Leo finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Four of
the top five individuals were from Rollins including tournament medallist
Charlotte Campbell who carded a three-round 216 score (71-74-71).
Campble also fired the tournament's low round score twice (71) in the
first and final rounds. Teammates Freddie Seeholzer finished second 10
strokes back with a three-round 226 (73-79-74), Mariana De Biase finished
third with a three-round 229 (82-71-76) and Ulrika Ljungman finished
fourth carding a three-round score of 230 (75-78-77). Barry's Michelle
Torry and Lynn's Jose Artymovich tied for fifth turning in three-round

Men Win First-Ever SSC Title |
| MIAMI,
Fla. -- In a conference that has been dominated by Florida Southern's
14 men's golf titles since 1977, today
a new conference champion emerged with Lynn University winning their first-ever
championship. The Fighting Knights carded a final round best 304 score
to finish 11 strokes ahead of second place.
For the tournament, Lynn carded a three-round score of 895 (295-296-304)
for their first conference title. Barry posted their highest ever finish
with a three-round 906 score (295-302-309) in second place. Florida Southern
finished three strokes behind Barry with a three-round 909 (311-292-306),
while Rollins finished fourth turning in a three-round score of 913 (310-296-307).
Florida Tech made their conference tournament debut finishing fifth with
a three-round 943 (316-311-316) and Tampa finished two strokes behind
the newcomers with a three-round 945 (313-300-332). Eckerd carded a three-round
947 (326-304-317) and finished seventh, while Saint Leo rounded out the
field in eighth with a three-round 960 (330-310-320).
Lynn's
Keir McNicoll fired an even par 216 score (74-69-73) to finish as the
conference tournament individual medallist. Teammate Hoyt McGarity
(72-74-74) tied for second with Rollins' Tim Sunyog (74-72-74) both carding
four over par 220 scores. Barry's John Quigley finished two strokes back
in fourth place with a three-round 222 score (75-74-73). Rounding out
the top five individuals, Florida Southern's Jon Schram (77-71-76) and
Brett Blondell (79-71-74) fired three-round 224 scores to finish tied

Barry
to Host Sunshine State Conference Golf Tournament

MIAMI
SHORES, Fla.--Barry University will serve as the host for the Sunshine
State Conference men’s and women’s golf tournaments in
April. The SSC, one of the strongest golf league in NCAA Division II,
has produced 23 national champions, 15 in men’s golf and eight
in women’s, in its history. The conference has won the last four
women’s titles and two of the last four men’s national
championships.
The tournament will
be contested at the world-famous Doral Golf Club, Monday and Tuesday,
April 12-13, with April 11 as the practice day. The women will play
the Red course, while the men take on the White. |
