| Roger
White, in his sixth year as head women’s golf coach at Barry University,
has the led the team since it’s inception. He is also the head of the
university’s golf management degree program.
White came to Barry from the Woodlands Golf and Country Club in Ellenton,
Fla., where he was the head professional. He has extensive teaching experience
and has managed golf facilities in Michigan and Florida. He has been
the head professional at several prestigious clubs in Florida and taught
at
the King Par Golf Center in Okemos, Mich., where the Michigan State Spartans
practice and compete.
In 2002, only the
fourth year of the Buccaneers women’s golf program,
White led his team to their first-ever NCAA regional and national tournament
appearances. Under his guidance, the Bucs finished second in the nation
that year. This year, the Bucs entered the fall season ranked 12th in
the Golf
Coaches Association of America National Poll.
A 1971 graduate of
Michigan State, White played on the Spartan golf team. He also earned
a master’s degree in athletic administration from MSU.
He is an honor’s graduate of Michigan State’s two-year Turfgrass
Management program.
Prior to coaching at Barry, White worked with the University of Tampa
Spartan men from 1989-92.
White, an active member of the Professional Golfers Association since
1976, has attended numerous educational programs including the PGA and
USGA Rules
seminar, management for PGA golf pros seminar, and the Henry Griffitts
Club Fitting course.
He was elected to
PGA master professional status in 1996, the highest designation for a
golf professional.
He has published an article entitled “Instant
Lesson” in Golf Digest. He was elected secretary of the MSU Turf Program
in 1993 and was chosen in 1994 to appear in The World’s Greatest
Golf Professionals, a national publication.
White was recently
named to the PGA’s Quarter Century Club and also
serves on the Board of Directors as the Vice President for the Southern
Chapter of the PGA. |
