Teaching Philosophy

“As a teacher, I believe that I help my students develop their potential by increasing their communication skills, sensitivity to others and self-esteem.  By exhibiting patience, using techniques for constructive criticism and encouraging students to freely express their ideas and feelings, I try to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to achieving personal growth and self-confidence.  This is an important part of Barry’s mission to foster a caring environment.”

Born in New York, Rochelle Kinzel received her B.A. from Queens College in New York City and her M. A. in Speech and Theater from Hunter College in New York City.  Before joining the Barry community in 1985, she taught at various academic institutions in New York and Idaho.  In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she currently serves as the Academic Coordinator of Communications, Speech and Theater in the Frank J. Rooney School of Adult and Continuing Education.  She is also the ACE Newsletter Editor and a member of the ACE Portfolio Committee and ACE Academic Council.  To keep abreast of current practices and thinking in her disciplines, she has been an active member of the Florida Communication Association and the Southeastern Theater Conference, where she has presented numerous workshops and seminars throughout the years,
