How to Apply to the CAL Program
In addition to the regular admissions process, students are required to apply directly to the CAL Program and submit the required materials. Once all materials are received, students will be interviewed by the CAL Director.
CAL applicants must meet Barry University admissions standards. For some individuals; however, a learning disability may affect the traditional measurements that are part of the college admission evaluation process. In some cases, the CAL Director may make recommendations to the entry committee regarding an individual student.
1. Admissions Application: Complete the Barry University Admissions Application.
2. Consent Form: Complete the Consent for Release of School Information form and submit it to your high school guidance counselor so that your school can release information concerning your educational history to CAL.
3. Psychoeducational Evaluation Report: Submit a current copy of your psychoeducational evaluation report. This report should include a complete psychoeducational evaluation performed by a licensed psychologist or educational specialist in learning disabilities. The evaluation must also include intelligence testing (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale/WAIS, is preferred), achievement testing, information processing testing, and a clear statement of diagnosis. The testing must have been conducted within the past three years.
4. Individual Education Plan (IEP): If applicable, request that your school forward a copy of your most recent IEP directly to the CAL Program.
5. Transcript: Request that your school forward a copy of your transcript to the University’s Admissions Office.
6. Standardized Test Scores: Submit a copy of your SAT or ACT scores to the University’s Admissions Office.
7. Letter of Recommendation: Request and submit a letter of recommendation from your school counselor, learning disabilities specialist, or teacher.
8. Personal Statement: Submit a one to two page personal written composition (essay) describing why you think you would benefit from participating in the CAL Program.
9. Interview: Upon receipt and review of the above listed documents, we will contact you regarding the status of your application, and if appropriate, arrange for an interview with you alone and/or with your parents. |
