Variety of Items Collected in School Supply Drive
The School Supply Drive organized by the Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI) to benefit children supported by Chapman Partnership in Miami was a success.
Barry University staff, faculty, and students donated more than 20 different types of items, reported CCSI Graduate Assistant Sashay Goodletty, who coordinated the drive. Among the items were 600 pencils, 33 packs of crayons, 60 folders, 50 composition notebooks, and 30 packs of writing paper.
“Many thanks to the faculty, staff, and students who donated and helped prepare the children for their first day of school,” Goodletty said.
Since 1995, Chapman Partnership has been assisting homeless adults and children in transitioning off the streets of Miami-Dade County and in attaining stability and self-sufficiency.
Goodletty coordinated the summer drive in consultation with Chapman Partnership staff members Kenisha Brown and Grace Ugalde-Wolpert.
“Thank you and we are grateful for your assistance in helping our residents attain greater stability and self-sufficiency,” wrote Ugalde-Wolpert, the community outreach manager, in an August 13 letter to the CCSI.
CCSI Team Lends a Hand
A four-member team from the CCSI recently added a fresh coat of paint to the external walls of a wing at GratignyElementary School.
Director Glenn Bowen, Associate Director Christina Leaño, Graduate Assistant Sashay Goodletty, and Community Engagement Liaison Steffano Montano “did an excellent job, for which we are grateful,” said Dr. Aaron Enteen, principal of the school. “We appreciate the support we’ve been receiving from Barry.”
