Profile

Professor Lewis is new to the faculty of Barry University 's School of Social Work. Prior to coming to Barry, she served on the faculty of Columbia University School of Social Work. Professor Lewis received her B.S.W. from Florida Atlantic University, her M.S.W. form Barry University, and her PhD. from Florida State University . 

Professor Lewis brings to Barry a diverse background in professional social work practice experience as well as extensive research experience in the areas of adherence to medication in chronically ill populations, psychosocial issues related to HIV/AIDS, crisis intervention, domestic violence, and instrument design. 

Professor Lewis has publications in the areas of research design, HIV/AIDS, health behavior and organizations, crisis intervention, and domestic violence. She has presented her work extensively both nationally and internationally. 

She has a strong belief in community/university collaboration which is backed by her commitment to assist community-based organizations in adapting, adopting, or developing effective HIV prevention interventions. Professor Lewis has served on the boards of several community-based organizations and has received several awards for her commitment to community service.
