William James Prize Awarded to Bernardo Cantens

Bernardo Cantens, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, received the William James Prize - American Philosophical Association 2003, for the best paper in the area of American Philosophy (accepted through the normal process of blind-reviewing) for his paper, "Overcoming the Evidentialist's Challenge: Peirce's Conjectures of Instinctive Reason and the Reality of God." He will present the symposium paper at the American Philosophical Association Eastern Division in Washington, DC on December 27-30, 2003.
His paper, "What kind of beings (entia) are beings of reason and what kind of being (esse) do they have? Suárez on beings of reason" was accepted for publication by the American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly.
Dr. Cantens is the Faculty Advisor for the Undergraduate Student Philosophy Association, which hosts informal luncheons and presentations of student papers at colloquia held during the Fall and Spring terms. |
