Message from the Chair
Congratulations and thanks to our Faculty, Students, Alumni, Staff and University Administrators who all supported our efforts to achieve ATS accreditation. Your participation was greatly appreciated.
We are extremely proud of the culmination of Bernie Cantens' efforts to bring the American Catholic Philosophical Association's Annual Meeting (November 5-7, 2004) to Miami to be hosted by Barry University.
We also congratulate our new graduates, Webert Chery and Thomas Ewing (BA-Theology); Javier Castillo, Ana Martinez and Martha Interiano (MA-Theology); and Marian Diaz, Kathy Friedlander, Darlene Kawulok, Elsie Miranda, and Peter Zografos (DMin).
We have successfully concluded our search for a faculty member in Old Testament, and we are pleased that Dr. David Bosworth will join our faculty beginning in Fall 2004.
Many thanks to JoAnn McCaffrey for facilitating a session on theological reflection in ministry for our graduate students and others involved in ministry in the Barry community. We are grateful to Alicia Marill for continuing to enhance our DMin program with speakers and facilitators, including Stephen Bevans and Robert Schreiter.
Marian Diaz (DMin 2003) and Mary Dodge (DMin student) are sharing in this mission by assessing and developing ways of addressing the needs of our students in ministry for colleagueship and formation.
Once again, Aquinas Institute of Theology (St. Louis, MO) has opened their Gateway to Ministry program to undergraduate students interested in the possibility of ministry as a vocation and profession. Ron Knapp, Director of Admissions for AI, met with Barry students who are eligible to apply to this program.
Warm congratulations to our faculty who, in the midst of preparing for the ATS accreditation site visit, continued to write, publish, preach, and teach - take a look at some of their accomplishments in "Faculty News."
Finally, we look to the future by honoring Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin's 23-year presidency by establishing an endowed scholarship for students in the College of Arts and Sciences. This fund will be a perpetual gift to students who will carry on Sister Jeanne's legacy of scholarship, professional excellence and community leadership. To contribute, contact Tom Severino, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement at 305-899-3070 or tseverino@mail.barry.edu.
Sincerely yours,
Father Mark Wedig
