Edward R. Sunshine, PhD

Profile

Dr. Edward Sunshine joined the Barry faculty in 1988. He earned BA and MA degrees from Loyola University in Chicago and a Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.

Dr. Sunshine has many years of teaching experience, ranging from junior high school to graduate education, in the United States and Perú. He has also worked in religious education and community organizing in Chile, Perú, and Pilsen, a Mexican inner-city neighborhood in Chicago.

Dr. Sunshine teaches courses in moral theology and Christian ethics. At the undergraduate level, he teaches courses in Sexuality, Sex and Morality and Marriage and Family, and at the graduate level, Principles of Christian Morality, Catholic Social Thought, and Pastoral Care and Human Sexuality.

Dr. Sunshine’s scholarly interests include abolitionist documents from Cuba in the 17th century, the relation between ethics and rhetoric in church teaching, and sexual ethics. His recent publications include:

Dr. Sunshine is a Senator for the School of Arts & Sciences in the Faculty Senate and Chair of the Faculty Grievance Committee. He is a frequent participant on panels that deal with religion and politics for programs produced by local television stations.
