Graduate Programs in Theology and Ministry
In addition to its undergraduate programs, the Department of Theology and Philosophy offers four graduate programs in the disciplines of Christian theology and ministry. These programs are oriented toward basic education for general theological studies and advanced education for ministerial leadership.
The MA in Pastoral Theology and MA in Pastoral Ministry for Hispanics provide understanding of the heritage for the community of faith, understanding of cultural realities and social contexts of the religious tradition, formation for ministry, and capacity for growth and entry into a particular ecclesial setting.
The MA in Practical Theology provides a foundational understanding in the theological disciplines of Scripture, systematic and moral theology, emphasizing research methods and teaching skills with an option for competence in Dominican Studies.
The Doctor of Ministry
degree provides advanced understanding and skills in Christian ministry,
knowledge of practical theology through biblical, systematic, and
moral topics, and the integration of Christian practical methods
through a thesis-project. This degree also provides a concentration
in Dominican Studies.
The Institute for Hispanic/Latino
Theology and Ministry offers you a unique opportunity to gain
a solid background in this valuable field. Staffed by faculty with
both theoretical and practical knowledge, Barry's Institute is well
positioned to help you gain an in-depth understanding of the theological
and cultural world of the Latino(a).
The graduate programs in theology have a very
strong impact on the religious and theological mission of Barry
University. The development of a concentration in Dominican Studies
for the certificate, MA, and D.Min. programs further enhances the
Catholic and Dominican purpose of the University. The
Center for Dominican Studies serves the department, providing
formation for students of theology and ministry.
