Prerequisites and Preparatory Workshops

Business Prerequisites

Students must have completed an undergraduate accounting degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Students who hold a Bachelor's degree in a discipline other than accounting must achieve equivalency in accounting , i.e. a minimum of thirty credit hours of accounting classes (with a grade of C or better) on top of the following undergraduate coursework:

  • college algebra/pre-calculus (three credits with a grade of C or better);
  • probability and statistics (three credits with a grade of C or better);
  • economics (six credits with a grade of C or better);
  • finance (three credits with a grade of C or better);
  • management (three credits, with a grade of C or better);
  • marketing (three credits with a grade of C or better); and,

The economics, pre-calculus, and statistics pre-requisites may be waived via CLEP testing.

Applicants who lack undergraduate preparation in any of the courses listed above will be required to successfully complete a non credit workshop for each discipline where preparation is insufficient.

  • Pre-calculus and statistics: 20 hour workshop (BUS 511W)
  • Economics: 20 hour workshop (BUS 513W)
  • Finance: 6 hour workshop (BUS 514W), with principles of accounting, economics, and pre-calculus & statistics as prerequisites
  • Management: 6 hour workshop (BUS 515W)
  • Marketing: 6 hour workshop (BUS 516W)

Writing proficiency

Applicants who do not demonstrate adequate writing skills will be required to successfully complete a writin g skills workshop before or during the first year of graduate study.

  • Writing for Business: 20 hour workshop (BUS 518W).
