PROGRAM AND PURPOSE
CEBS® is a highly regarded professional designation that can be earned by benefits professionals through a comprehensive and rigorous program of study. Many major corporations have validated the program by requiring their benefits officers to have the CEBS designation. Several major new developments in the CEBS program reflect the changes in the benefits industry.
Requirements for Earning the GBA and RPA Designations Have Changed, CEBS candidates will need to complete three core courses to attain each specialty designation.

ENROLLMENT CRITERIA
There are no formal educational or experience requirements, and there are no course prerequisites. You may enroll in any course without the goal of working toward the CEBS designation. Each course is designed to stand on its own, and the courses may be taken in any order. Students may choose to expand their professional knowledge in specific areas through the new CMS (Compensation Management Specialist), GBAT (Group Benefits Associate), and RPAT (Retirement Plans Associate) designations. . These programs are described below.
CEBS REGISTRATION EXAMINATIONS
Students intending to earn a CEBS designation are expected to register with the CEBS Program. A non refundable registration fee is payable prior to the first examination and candidates must pass a national exam on each course. Upon completing the national exam for each of the courses, students will earn the professional designation of Certified Employee Benefit Specialist. Examinations are computer-based and are administered at Prometric (formerly Sylvan) Testing Centers. For those intending to earn the CEBS, CMS, GBA or RPA designation, an examination fee is payable to the CEBS Program prior to each examination.

GBAT GROUP BENEFITS ASSOCIATE, RPAT RETIREMENT PLANS ASSOCIATE AND CMS COMPENSATION MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST are three programs being offered through CEBS® which recognize primary areas of specialization within employee benefits: group, retirement and compensation. They have been designed for people who work primarily in these areas, but they also are excellent stepping stones to the CEBS designation. Each of the specialty track designations requires the successful completion of three or four courses and examinations. There is no time limit for earning these designations.
