Bucs Women's Tennis Players Advance at ITA Regional

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- All four Barry University women's tennis players won singles matches Friday at the ITA South Region Championships hosted by West Florida.

Eighth-seeded Emma Onila defeated Tampa's Thashia Garcia, 6-1, 6-1, in the Round of 32. Linda Fritschken defeated Florida Southern's Joalis Dominguez, 6-2, 6-1. 

Seventh-seeded Elisabeth Abanda was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Anastasia Wagner of Saint Leo. Karina Goia outlasted Valdosta State's Sabrina Schmidt, 6-2. 5-7, 10-7. 

Each of the Bucs advance to Saturday's Round of 16 matches, which begin at 8 a.m. 

Second-seeded Fritschken and Onila defeated Saint Leo's Pauline Helgesson and Coralie Pessenti, 8-4, in the doubles Round of 16. Fourth-seeded Abanda and Goia were 8-3 winners over Florida Southern's Dominguez and Dominique Friedrichs.

Both of the Bucs doubles teams advance to Saturday's 4:30 p.m. quarterfinals.
