MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Even the Nova Southeastern coaching staff was impressed. Barry University didn't just perform well on the volleyball court. The Buccaneers crowd support was on its "A" game in Barry's 25-18, 25-22, 25-18 sweep Friday night.

"The fans were amazing," sophomore hitter Tashalyn Begon said after banging down seven kills and hitting .500 while picking up nine digs in her best match of the season.

Barry (5-5, 1-2 Sunshine State Conference) picked up its first league win of the year, and moved back to the .500 mark overall following a match when it hit .270 in both the first and third sets. The Buccaneers secured their fifth sweep of the season.

"We believe in ourselves," freshman middle blocker Ivana Didanovic said after putting away seven balls and standing her ground at the net with three blocks. "We really had confidence."

The Bucs had 15 or more kills in each of the three sets, and outpounded the Sharks (3-8, 0-3) in kills (48-26) and total attacks (112-79) by wide margins.

Jasmine Serna had 37 assists for the Bucs, and Ashley Carrero had 15 kills while hitting .281. Laine Cielena had 12 kills and three blocks.

The Buccaneers had six blocks to Nova's three. Barry, which ranks 30th in the nation in service aces per set, fired off six Friday. Carrero had two aces. Jenny Trinidad, who ranked 19th in NCAA Division II in aces per set, had one.

Barry committed 20 attack errors, while Nova Southeastern was guilty of 14. Sydney Cook had 10 kills and eight digs for the Sharks.

"The atmosphere, we really got 100 percent out of ourselves," Didanovic said of Bucky's crew overzealous crowd support. "It was amazing. I want to thank them. They really support us."

Barry will host Lynn at 4 p.m. Saturday to complete its two-match stretch in Rivalry Week.
