MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry baseball team will host its 15th annual scout day on Monday, Oct. 21 at Feinbloom Field to showcase the draft eligible players to the Buccaneer roster to many Major League scouts.

Head Coach Mark Pavao has hosted the event annually since joining the Buccaneers’ staff and has kept it going after taking over the helm of the program.

The event will begin with the 60 yard dash, followed by batting practice, an infield/outfield segment, and then a scrimmage involving all draft eligible pitchers. Barry tallies 15 draft-eligible players this season.

The Buccaneers have had 15 players drafted. Among those are 2011 consensus All-American Dean Green by the Tigers and Manny Rodriguez, also in 2011, was the highest Buccaneer drafted when he was selected in the 10th round by the Washington Nationals.

Last summer, Tyler Kinley became the most recent Buccaneer drafted when he was selected in the 16th round by the Miami Marlins in the First-Year Player Draft.

This spring Pavao enters his 9th season as the Buccaneers’ skipper. The two-time Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year has led the Bucs to two SSC Championships and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2011.

“This is a great opportunity for our guys, especially the younger players, to experience exposure to professional scouts and to display their abilities,” said Pavao.

“We’ve been fortunate to have several players in our program go on to play at the major league level such as Yan Gomes [current catcher for the Cleveland Indians]. We usually get anywhere between 20-25 scouts and we’re excited to host this annual event once again."

The Buccaneers’ open the 2013 season at Feinbloom Field when they host Shorter University on Feb. 1st.
