MIAMI, Fla.-- On Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11, Barry University students, faculty, and staff will travel to Tallahassee to meet with state legislators during Barry Days. An annual event, Barry Days gives the Barry community a chance to advocate for the university’s educational priorities during the 2014 legislative session.
As a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF), Barry shares many of the same legislative goals as other universities throughout the state. Items on this year agenda include tuition assistance for Barry’s accelerated nursing program, the Master of Social Work program, and the B.S. in Emergency Management program.
In addition to promoting the university’s agenda, those attending will get an inside look at the House chambers and the offices of some of Florida’s legislative leaders. In addition, Barry will host a booth inside the Capitol building’s second floor rotunda outside the House and Senate chambers.
A total of 11 students and nine faculty and staff will join Barry President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, in Florida’s capital city. The 11 students attending were selected based on their interest in politics and include a sampling of majors such as political science, finance, and information technology.
