More than 1,400 students took part in Barry University’s graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremonies on May 5 at the James L. Knight Center in downtown Miami. Some 10,000 people attended the festivities throughout the day.

Among those receiving their degrees were nine police officers from the City of Miami, all graduating with a bachelor’s from Barry’s School of Adult and Continuing Education. The nine have devoted nights and weekends over the past several months to earn their degrees and take part in the commencement festivities. Those who graduated were: Armando Martinez (recently hired chief of police for Bonnell, FL), Rosa Symonette-Fernander, Cherise Gause, Kelly Perez, Alina Penã, Traci Sloan, Ruth Elianor, Deborah Ann Payne and Anneriz Walker. All received their bachelor’s in Public Administration except Walker, who received her bachelor’s in Legal Studies.

Congratulations to all the Barry graduates.
