MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Barry sophomore Mark Anderson and junior Sascha Koettig earn Daktronics NCAA Division II South Region Men’s Soccer First-Team honors.
A year after one of the most successful freshman campaigns in school history, Anderson led the team in goals (16), points (40), and shots (118), and tied for second on the team in assists (8). The Durham, England native earned Sunshine State Conference First-Team honors as well as SSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player this season.
Anderson led the conference in game-winning goals and tied the school record with seven. Anderson’s 40-point year earned him a share of third place in the school record books.
If Anderson is the fireworks, then Koettig is the wick. Koettig also earned First-Team All-SSC honors and a spot on the SSC All-Tournament team. The German posted seven goals and eight assists. He ranks sixth in school history in assists per game and 10th in school history in shots on goal per game. Koettig captained the Buccaneers back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2003.
The last Buccaneer selected to the All-Region first-team was current assistant coach Henry Apaloo in 2006.
