PREREQUISITES (9 credits)    

Prior to enrolling in the degree program, applicants may be required to take one or more of the following prerequisite courses if the subjects (or equivalent) have not been covered in previous coursework:

ADM 303

Administrative Theory & Practice

ADM 353

Leadership Development

ADM 464

Human Resource Administration

PREREQUISITES COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

ADM 303 Administrative Theory & Practice (3)
An examination of the general principles of organizational leadership and administration.  Topics include contemporary approaches to planning, organizing, staffing, leadership and control.

ADM 353 Leadership Development (3)
This course explores current leadership theory and practice.  Emphasis is on both understanding and developing effective leadership approaches for contemporary work environments.

ADM 464 Human Resource Administration (3)
A comprehensive review of general human resource theories and practices related to managing personnel more strategically.  Major topics include staffing, human resource development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, health, safety, and security.

PREREQUISITES WAIVER CRITERIA

Students provisionally accepted to the Master of Arts in Administration (MAA) who may need to take prerequisite courses can complete essay questions to be evaluated for course waiver(s). The essay(s) must be completed and evaluated by the ACE Graduate Admissions Committee prior to the student enrolling in graduate courses in the program. Completion of the essays does not guarantee waiver of the prerequisite courses. Students must have a minimum of five (5) or more years of professional and progressive work experience to complete the essays. Those who have fewer than five (5) years must take the prerequisite courses as indicated in the terms of their provisional admission.
