Africana Studies is the study and understanding of the vast experiences, history, culture, political perspectives and theoretical underpinnings reflecting people and nations of African descent around the world. Presently, numerous universities across the nation offer Africana Studies programs that are designed to compliment the traditional student’s academic major.

Africana Studies at Barry University seeks to enrich and enlighten students through an interdisciplinary course offering, as well as cultural activities and programs on the Miami Shores campus. The program understands the importance of providing students with clear and accurate knowledge about communities and people that comprise the African Diaspora, within the framework of a liberal arts education at an academically progressive and multicultural institution of higher learning.
