A Message from President-Elect Michael Allen, PhD

Allen family Dear Barry Alumni Community:

Since being elected by the Board of Trustees as Barry's 7th president, my wife, Beth, and I have been filled with gratitude by the outpouring of support from the Barry community and alumni across the world. Thank you for taking the time to reach out via email and social media with your well wishes and prayers. We will always look back on these days with a great sense of joy and appreciation.

I'm excited to not only meet our students, faculty and staff in the coming weeks and months, but also our esteemed alumni. I am eager to engage with our alumni community as we endeavor to build upon Barry's legacy by honoring our rich heritage, celebrating who we are today, and aspiring for excellence in all that we do going forward. Together, we will embrace the bright future we have as a diverse, multi-cultural, multi-faith, and inclusive University community.

My family and I are delighted to be Barry Buccaneers and look forward to calling Miami Shores our home in just a few short months. We will be unwavering in our commitment to make you proud of your University.

Go Bucs!

DAA 2020

DAA group 2019On Feb. 15, more than 250 friends and members of the Barry community came together at the Shepard & Ruth K. Broad Center for the Performing Arts to honor seven distinguished alumni for the significant impact made in their community through their service and career achievements.

The event, which was hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist and Barry alumna Teresa Rodríguez '79, featured moving testimonials from honorees and current students about the impact of their Barry experiences and how the Barry Core Commitments of Knowledge and Truth, Inclusive Community, Social Justice, and Collaborative Service are alive in everything they do. Among the evening's highlights was a special presentation by John Bussell, chair of the Barry University Board of Trustees, who honored Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, with the first-ever Distinguished Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award, a category that will bear her name going forward.

We now need your help in identifying other deserving alumni to be recognized at next year's event, which will take place on Feb. 13, 2020. If you know a Barry graduate who has made significant contributions to his or her profession and community, and who consistently demonstrates the core commitments, please submit a nomination by Monday, May 20.

Meet Barry's Director of Annual Giving

tony dickey

This April, Anthony Dickey joined Barry as its new director for annual giving, bringing with him new expertise, energy and experience to the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. A native of West Lafayette, IN, Anthony graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, with minors in Management, and Organizational Leadership and Supervision.

After graduation he worked at Purdue for three years in their phonathon program before moving on to The Ohio State University as associate director of annual giving. His career then brought him to the Sunshine State where he worked first as director of annual giving at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and then at the University of Florida. Anthony then moved on to work as director of annual giving at Idaho State University and California State University, Northridge. An avid sports fan, he spends his free time traveling to college football games and NCAA basketball tournaments.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues to increase alumni participation and toget Barry students, faculty/staff, alumni, parents and friends to get excited about the philanthropic opportunities they can help provide to bring our students to the forefront of higher learning,” says Anthony.
