Barry alumni and president honored at first-ever Distinguished Alumni Awards

Alumni selected from each of Barry's 10 academic schools
More than 250 people gathered Nov. 15 at the Don Shula Hotel in Miami Lakes for the Barry University Alumni Association’s first-ever Distinguished Alumni Awards.
During the evening, 10 Barry alumni representing Barry’s 10 academic schools were honored for significant achievement in their field and their continued dedication and commitment to the university’s mission. Those recognized at the event were: Annabelle Dizon Scott, ’04 (Nursing); John Steinberg, ’93, ’95 (Graduate Medical Sciences); Juan Fernandez, ’92, ’98 (Human Performance and Leisure Science); Sherri McVay, ’02 (Law); Susan Jeter, ’04 (Adult and Continuing Education); Teresa Rodriguez, ’79 (Business); Silvia Reyes, ’93, ’96 (Education); Regine Cordon Shiver, ’95 (Arts and Sciences); Joni Goodman, ’77 (Social Work); and Catheryn Johnson, ’01 (Natural Health Sciences). Barry University President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD was honored with the 2007 Distinguished Adrian Dominican Alumna Award. A 1962 graduate of Barry University, Sister Linda is the first person to receive the award.
Barry’s Distinguished Alumni Award is given to individuals with exceptional career achievement, outstanding community service and a demonstrated commitment to Barry University. Honorees are those who exemplify the intent and purpose of Barry’s mission, including teachers, coaches, business leaders, researchers, nurses, athletes and others who have distinguished themselves through significant achievement.
