Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients
Sen. Allyson Maynard Gibson graduated from Barry University with her Bachelor of Science from the D. Inez Andreas School of Business in 1975.
She credits Barry for “a true values-based liberal arts education” and for starting her on her leadership path. (While a freshman, she served as vice president of the Student Government Association.)
Maynard Gibson is currently serving her second term as attorney general and minister of legal affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. She advocates for the rights of women and children, including protecting the identities of rape victims and supporting laws against domestic violence and sexual harassment.
Maynard Gibson is the former president of the International Women’s Forum and its Leadership Foundation, the former president of The Links Inc., and an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. In 2011 she was honored by the by the All China Women’s Federation for “Outstanding Contributions to Women’s Leadership. In January 2015 she became one of Her Majesty's Counsel, being the first such woman at the Bahamas Bar.
