Founders' Week: Tuesday, Nov. 13 – Distinguished Lecture with Dr. Shawn Copeland

Barry University is pleased to welcome Dr. M. Shawn Copeland from Boston College as the 2012 Founders’ Week Distinguished Lecturer today, Tuesday, November 13.  This year’s lecture, The Body Matters: Theology, Ethics and Power will explore the social, cultural and religious implications that all of humanity confronts. Copeland’s work encourages interdisciplinary dialogue related to issues of ethics, power and the meaning of being human. The presentation will draw on concrete examples from The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, as well as other literary and contemporary sources.   

9:00 am:  Refreshments will be served and Dr. Copeland’s book Enfleshing Freedom:  Body, Race, and Being will be available for purchase

9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.:  Lecture
11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.:  Book Signing
1 p.m. – 2 p.m.:  Continue the dialogue at a Roundtable Discussion in Andreas 111 with students, faculty, and staff
