Dr. Rebecca Lee named Director of Anesthesiology programs

Barry University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences appointed Rebecca Lee, DNP, CRNA, ARNP as the new Director of the Anesthesiology programs.

Lee, who was born in Hong Kong and raised in New York City, completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Central Florida. She earned her Masters of Science in Anesthesiology from Barry University and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Miami.

In 2013, Lee joined Barry as an Assistant Professor and assumed the role of Assistant Program Director of the Anesthesiology programs two years later. In addition to the responsibilities at Barry, Dr. Lee continues to practice clinical nurse anesthesia at various community hospitals and university hospital systems.

Prior to joining Barry University, Dr. Lee served in multiple roles as hospital nursing administrator, clinical staff nurse anesthetist and CRNA clinical educator. Her scholarly work and interests include technology in higher education, situational awareness, anesthesia simulation and non-technical skills training to enhance patient safety.

Lee recently co-authored an article in the Quarterly Review of Distance Education titled, The Technology of Anesthesiology Online: Convenience in Course Design. The article outlined how educational technology can be incorporated into the delivery of a graduate nurse anesthesia curriculum without compromising academic rigor and integrity to meet current societal needs.

“We are grateful that Dr. Rebecca Lee has joined the College of Nursing and Health Sciences leadership team as Program Director of the Anesthesiology programs,” said John McFadden, PhD, CRNA, College of Nursing and Health Sciences Dean. “Her broad knowledge and diverse experience will positively influence our students."

Lee will succeed Tony Umadhay, PhD, CRNA, who will assume his full-time role as Associate Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
