Anesthesiology alumna wins DAA award

Elizandra Pierre, MS ‘09, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who was presented with Barry University's Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA). She has been practicing since 2009 in a variety of settings from Level 1 Trauma centers to outpatient surgery centers. She has worked in such specialties as pediatrics, obstetrics, and organ transplantation. Elizandra is currently practicing at St Margaret’s Hospital, a community hospital in Northwest Indiana. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in French with a minor in Psychology and received her nursing degree from Miami Dade College. Elizandra continued with her education and received a Master’s in Science in Anesthesiology from Barry University in 2009. Elizandra is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and has been certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.

In addition to her full-time work, Elizandra has been volunteering in hospitals and clinics abroad since graduating from anesthesia school. She volunteered with a disaster relief team in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010 and has continued to return to the same clinic. Most recently Elizandra was on assignment with Doctors Without Borders. She was stationed in Aweil, South Sudan for six weeks and provided pediatric and obstetric anesthesia to a high risk maternal population.

Elizandra is licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse anesthetist in Illinois and currently resides in Chicago, IL. In her free time she enjoys running and participating in marathons throughout the country. She most recently completed the Minneapolis Twin Cities Marathon.
