Our Departments

  • Biology Department

    The Department of Biology offers the opportunity to study life at all levels. The diverse course of study helps you develop critical thinking skills as you examine scientific knowledge from various biology sub-disciplines.

  • Chemistry and Physics Department

    We offer foundational and advanced courses in Chemistry and Physics. Students may obtain one of two undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with specialization in Biochemistry.

  • Communication Department

    Offering multiple majors and home to all of Barry’s student media, Communication is a popular department and a hub of student activity on campus.

  • English and Foreign Languages Department

    A major or minor in English can provide you with strong credentials as well as intellectual rewards. We offer 3 options for the major: general English studies, Professional Writing, and Literature.

  • Fine Arts Department

    Based upon the tradition of the liberal arts, the Fine Arts at Barry (art, design, dance, music, photography, and theatre) provide students with a broad foundation in the methods, practical skills, and historical context of each discipline.

  • History and Political Science Department

    The Department of History and Political Science offers students a solid foundation in preparing them for fulfilling careers in the fields of law, international studies, history, government, politics, business, media and teaching.

  • Mathematics and Computer Science Department

    Our department offers undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science (CS), and Computer Information Sciences (CIS) (with two specialization options in Cybersecurity and Multimedia). *Note: Check out our new Data Visualization and Machine Learning (AI) courses starting in Fall ’24.

  • Psychology Department

    Grounded in the tradition of the liberal arts, the study of psychology offers students the opportunity to engage in scientific inquiry into human thought, emotion, and behavior in order to formulate important questions and discover meaningful answers.

  • Sociology and Criminology Department

    Choosing to major in sociology or criminology at Barry University has many advantages. The curriculum is challenging and comprehensive with an emphasis on issues of social justice.

  • Theology and Philosophy Department

    The disciplines of theology and philosophy provide distinct, yet complementary, foundations for your search for truth and meaning in the light of human experience.

We know what you expect out of your professors - excellent teachers who work hard to provide you with the best education possible. Our professors choose to come to Barry because teaching is important to them. Even though they are active in research, scholarship, and creative/performance activities, Barry faculty are focused on your learning first. They will guide you to put what you learn in the classroom into practice through a wide variety of learning activities.

You'll have many opportunities to make a difference in the world. From assisting Haitian youth in building literacy and life skills, to bridging the digital divide in a Liberty City neighborhood, to fighting against domestic violence, our students are changing the world for the better.

Dean's Awards

Each year, faculty in each of the ten Arts and Sciences departments submit their top recommendations to the Dean for their outstanding undergraduate graduating student(s). From this pool of candidates, the Dean along with a selection committee choose an outstanding graduate for the fields of Humanities and Theology, Mathematics and Sciences, and Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Characteristics that the candidates are judged on include scholarly achievement, leadership, and service within the Barry community as well as outside the university.

Academics Program Offerings

There are about as many paths through life as there are people, so if you're uncertain about your major, that's understandable. It's also okay to change your mind; a degree is a major commitment (no pun intended). Along the way, you'll find subjects that really intrigue you.
Uncovering your passions, and figuring out how to turn them into a rewarding career is what college is all about. We'll help you figure out how to capitalize on your interests and to select the most appropriate degree - after all, we have over a hundred to choose from.

Earn a Bachelor's and Juris Doctor Degree 3+3 Accelerated Program

A partnership between Barry University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, the 3+3 Accelerated Program enables qualified students to earn a Bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degree in six years instead of the typical seven. This means that your senior year of college can double as your first year of law school!

Students who are eligible for this rigorous program enjoy full access to School of Law faculty and resources, including our trial and moot court competition teams and our five in-house legal clinics.

The School of Law also offers a variety of externship opportunities that allow you to practice law under the supervision of accomplished attorneys. The Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law is located in Orlando, Florida. Students who are accepted into the 3+3 Accelerated Program will be expected to attend classes and/or extracurricular events on the Orlando campus.

How Do I Qualify for the Program?

The 3+3 Accelerated Program enables qualified students to earn a Bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degree in six years instead of the typical seven.
