South Florida universities host virtual, science-focused seminars on race and gender in academia, and more.

The Multi-Institution Seminar Series, South Florida Fall 2020 is presented by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. Major universities in our area are joining Barry University to host this event -- including the University of Miami, Florida International University, St. Thomas University, and Nova Southeastern University.

There will be two virtual seminars presented on Nov. 4th by featured speaker Dr. Fadie Coleman, Assistant Professor of Medical Sciences and Education and Director of the Biomedical Laboratory and Clinical Sciences Program at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Coleman’s first talk will be a frank discussion on race and gender in science and academia, “Seat at the Table: My Narrative on Belonging in Science” at 12:00 pm. Her second talk, titled “Exploring Bacterial Manipulation of Scavenger Receptor Expression and Phagocyte Function”, is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
