Glenn Wilkes, Jr.—Head Coach
I don’t know if they get much tougher than that game. I don’t know
what the largest lead was. We knew it was going to be tough. It always is
when we play Tech. In a lot of way we both play alike, we are both defensive
minded and we like to hit the boards pretty hard. So, we knew it was going
to be a really tough game.
Playing Championship Game:
I think it feels particularly good this year with this team. We’ve
been through a lot of adversity. To watch this team grow and improve, and
respond to it has been great. We’ve been hunting for it (chemistry) all
year long and in the last five games to really get good chemistry. This
win has been particularly nice.
Larissa McDonough — Sophomore, F
We knew that we had to continue scoring and do all of that stuff.
Joslyn Giles – Junior, F.
On being name tournament MVP and preparing for today’s game:
It feels better to get the win. I just tried to think that I was going
to do whatever my team needed me to do to win this game. They got me the
ball so I guess they needed me to score.
Nicole Warder—Senior, G
Anytime to relax during the game:
I don’t think you can ever relax with Florida Tech. They are always
intense and very physical. I don’t think there was ever a point when we had
a three point lead, that I thought I can relax now. We knew we had to continue
scoring.
Florida Tech
John Reynolds – Head Coach
Thoughts on the game:
I think our defense all year has kept us in games and it got us here.
I think that’s probably the softest defense we’ve played in the last five
minutes of basketball we’ve played all year. We took three free throws to
their twenty-nine; I think most of the time they beat us to the spot on a
lot of things. We fouled people because we were a step slow defensively today.
The hardest part of today’s game is losing. That’s the ninth loss of the
season. We’ve got enough championships, we’ve got enough trophies, and that’s
great. If we don’t make it into the regional the biggest thing I loose today
are these three kids playing for me. They fill up your heart with their effort.
It’s going to be tough watching them leave.
No matter where you’re at, if there is one thing a senior would ever
want its one more game. No matter how much you prepare for it. As a senior,
you’re never ready for your last game. No matter how much you think you are,
you never are.
Laurissa Reynolds—G, Junior
After going through the Elite Eight and seeing how much heart went
into that, that makes a whole lot of difference. Being around him (coach)
everyday, yelling and laughing, I don’t know.
On playing for her dad:
I don’t really think it’s about that. I don’t think he showed any privilege,
I had to suck it up and lead by example. He’s going to get on you more,
but that’s no big deal.
Shayla Fisher—F, Senior My four years have been great. Like coach said a lot of people didn’t recruit
me for my talent and I have grown a lot because of coach. It made me a better
player and a better person that you can’t just stop at a point, you have
to keep going and going. I hope the freshman know how this feels. My freshman
year we went to the Elite Eight. Now hopefully they’ll know what it takes
for next year.
Ty-Anna Caravano – Senior,
G
My four years I have
grown as a person because of my coach and the program that he instills
into his players. I hope that
I’m somebody that my teammates look up to who has passed down what
he (coach) expects in them. I hope next year they have the heart to win.
