BA, Sociology, 1951
Elizabeth "Betty" Peppard, who attended
Barry from 1947-51, was one of the University's first successful
athletes. Although Barry did not field intercollegiate teams at
the time, she was an individual co-medalist at the 1950 Women's
National Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. Later, she was an accomplished
amateur golfer, winning the Florida East Coast Amateur title in
1959. That same year, she won the Palm Beach Championship, was second
low amateur at the Women's Titleholder Tournament, and reached the
quarterfinals of the Women's Western Amateur. Overall, she spent
three years on the winter circuit, and also played in several summer
events. She once reached the fourth round of the National Amateur.
Peppard currently resides in Canton, Ohio, where
she is a member of the Women's Regional Affairs Committee of the
U.S. Golf Association. She has been one of the top amateurs in Ohio
since the 1960s, reaching the State Championship Final five times
and winning the State title twice. |
