Brooks Petty
Men's Cross Country
BS, Business Management, 1989

Brooks Petty was Barry University's first male All-American. He was named All-American in 1988 after qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Meet. He won the 1988 Sunshine State Conference individual title, while helping the team win the SSC team championship -- Barry's first Conference title in any sport. He placed second at the 1988 NCAA South Regional Meet and advanced to the NCAA National Meet. Petty won the Gary Mills' Invitational three times (1985-87), and won the Barry University Invitational, Florida Southern Invitational, FIU Invitational, and Tampa Invitational once each. He was chosen Barry's team MVP all four years, and was named Barry Male Athlete-of-the-Year for 1988-89. He is now a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Petty is an airborne paratrooper, and has served throughout the world, including Germany, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. He continues to run each day, and recently helped the 82nd Airborne Division claim third place at the Army Ten Miler in Washington, D.C. with a personal-best time.
