William Reifsnider

William "Bill" Reifsnider played first
base for the Buccaneers from 1987-90. He played in 178 games and
totaled eleven career records and five single-season records. His
career batting average of .359 is tops in Barry University history.
His other records include career hits (231), career runs (130),
career RBI's (145), and career doubles (63). He hit over .300 every
year, including a personal best of .397 as a senior. It was during
his senior season that he set a Barry record with 25 doubles and
was named to the SSC All-Conference Team. Reifsnider set records
for on-base percentage (.509) and walks (39) as a freshman in 1987.
His excellence both on the field and in the classroom
earned him a distinguished NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and the
Woody Hayes National Scholar-Athlete Award in 1990. He is the only
three-time winner of Barry's Male Scholar/Athlete-of-the-Year Award
(1987-88 through 1989-90), and the only player to also simultaneously
earn the Barry Male Athlete-of-the-Year Award. He was Barry's first
Rhodes Scholar Candidate in 1990. Reifsnider was named GTE/CoSIDA
Academic All-American in 1989. |
