Marya Morusiewicz
Women's Volleyball
BS, Sports Medicine - Athletic Training, 1996
Marya Morusiewicz could be the "most perfect"
student-athlete to ever compete for Barry University. Marya's accomplishments
on the court and in the classroom can be considered stunning. One
of 10 national finalists for the 1996 NCAA Woman-of-the-Year, Marya
was the 1997 winner of the NCAA's prestigious $10,000 Walter Byers
Post-Graduate Scholarship, awarded to the top student-athlete in
Division I, II, or III. She was the Florida NCAA Woman-of-the-Year
in 1996, a three-time GTE Academic All-American in volleyball, and
the Sunshine State Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1996.
Morusiewicz, a native of Sarasota, Florida, was
also a three-time Barry Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year. She was selected
four times to the SSC All-Academic team, and graduated from Barry
with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Athletically, in 1995, she
was captain of Barry's NCAA National Championship volleyball team,
First Team All-South Regional Tournament, and Honorable Mention
All-SSC. A superb citizen, Morusiewicz had a remarkable record of
community service at Barry, including being President of the Barry
Athletic Trainer's Association, BUCS Tutors, Habitat for Humanity,
Campus Ambassador, Easter Seals, and the Sarasota Therapy Center
Volunteer, among many others. Marya is currently attending the University
of Miami and is pursuing a master's degree in Physical Therapy.
