The forerunner of the national success for the
Buccaneer volleyball team, Wei Liu was one of the first volleyball
All-Americans in Barry University history, earning the honor in
1995. Wei led the Buccaneers to the NCAA national tournament for
the first time in 1994 and was a primary member of the Bucs' 1995
NCAA II national championship team. She came to Barry from Beijing,
China in 1993 and immediately established herself as the best player
in the Sunshine State Conference. She was the SSC's Player-of-the-Year
in 1993, and was selected All-Region and All-SSC three times. Called
the epitome of the perfect role model by former Barry coach Leonid
Yelin, Wei was the first to bring an international diversity to
the Bucs. An outstanding student-athlete, Wei was a member of the
SSC's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll three times, and graduated
with a perfect 4.0 gpa in earning her Master of Business Administration
degree. Prior to coming to Barry, she was a member of the Chinese
national volleyball team. |
