NEW YORK, NY—The second Golf World/NGCA Division II Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has the Barry Buccaneers moving up three spots to number five.
“We are thrilled to move up into the top five,” head coach Patti Rizzo said, “but our goal is to the in the top three by spring.”
Nova Southeastern remained the number one team in the poll, earning 10 of the 12 first-place votes. The Sharks lead a group of four Sunshine State Conference teams in the top five of the poll. Rollins stays at number two, while Florida Southern is fourth and Barry fifth. Grand Valley State, who received one of the other two first-place votes, is third.
The Bucs finished in the top-five of all four tournaments this fall, including a pair of third-place finishes at the Lady Falcon Invitational and the Flagler Fall Slam. Senior Anna Haglind leads the squad in scoring. She ranks 19th in Division II and her second-place finish at the Lady Falcon Invitational is the best for the team this season.
“The girls are excited about the work we’ve done on the mental game this fall,” Rizzo said. “It’s helping them a lot, as evidenced by the results.”
Newberry (No. 9) and Nebraska-Omaha (No. 10) cracked the top-10, after being ranked Nos. 13 and T-15, respectively, in the previous coaches’ poll.
