MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers got a win and an NCAA record with a 3-1 win over the Florida Tech Panthers in Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night, thanks to two goals from Emmanuel Miranda and one from Lee Yakubowich in just 2:50 in the second half.

The three goals in 2:50 broke the mark of 3:28 set by Seattle against Humboldt State on Sept. 22, 2002.

After a scoreless first half, the Panthers (3-8-1, 1-5-0 SSC) struck first on a contested goal in the 51st minute. Mohammed Al-Sharif carried the ball deep down the right sideline and fed Matthew Cermak just outside the penalty box. Cermak’s chip shot drove Barry keeper Chris Rich back toward the goal line where he stuck a hand straight over his head to block the shot. But when he stepped forward, the assistant referee signaled goal.

Barry (9-5-1, 3-3-1 SSC) wasted little time getting the goal back. At the 54:48 mark, Patrick Miller took a corner kick from Miranda and maneuvered the ball down to the top of the penalty box where he slipped a pass through the defense to Yakubowich running unmarked at the top of the six-yard box for the goal.

The Bucs came back just 0:12 seconds later to score the eventual game-winner. Miller again started the play, threading a pass to Miranda wide open on the left flank. Miranda drove the ball in toward the goal and his shot got past Tech keeper Cory Collins and ricocheted off defender Matt Danella into the goal.

Miranda provided the capper in the 58th minute. Steven Howell lofted a long pass to Yakubowich at the top of the 18-yard box and he flicked it over to Miranda for the goal.

Rich stopped four shots for the Bucs, while Collins had nine saves for the Panthers.

The Bucs close out the regular season at arch-rival Lynn on Saturday, Oct. 29.
