DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Barry University women’s golf team started their 2005 fall season with a decent performance at the Lady Falcon Invitational over the weekend. The Buccaneers shot a two-round 627 (322-305) score and shaved 12 strokes off their first round total in the second round to finish sixth out of nine teams. The tournament was hosted by Daytona Beach CC at the Riviera Country Club.
Lynn first a 22 over par 606 (305-301) score and finished at the tournament medalist. Florida Southern (314-304) and Nova Southeastern (311-307) each fired two-round 618 scores and finished tied for second. Florida Gulf Coast (314-309=623) and Daytona Beach Community College (307-318=625) rounded out the top five respectively.
Barry newcomer Johanna Soderstrom (79-74=153) finished tied for ninth and led the Buccaneer field at seven strokes over par, while Shannon Langhardt carded a two round 157 (79-78) score and finished tied for 15th out of 52. Remijin Camping (85-74=159) and Kelly Kronen (81-79=160) finished one stroke apart and finished tied for 26th and 29 respectively. Michelle Torry (83-84=167) rounded the Buccaneer field tied at 41st.
Lynn’s Elizabeth Whitehouse carded a two-round two-under-par 144 (73-71) score to finish as the tournament’s individual medalist. NCAA Division I Stetson’s Ainsley Wellinghoff, Florida Gulf Coast’s Heather Hagerman and Lynn’s Natasha Morgan each finished with a one-over-par 147 score and tied for second.
The Buccaneer women will be back in action Oct. 1-2 at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla.
