DADE CITY, Fla. – After exploding with a first-round lead, the Barry University women’s golf team dropped 12 strokes on the final day at the Saint Leo Women’s Fall Invite and finished second out of seven teams earlier today at Lake Jovita Country Club. The Buccaneers (309-322) finished just six strokes out of the lead with a two-round score of 631.
Conference rival Lynn closed in on the final round to capture the top team honors carding a two-round 625 (315-310) score. Barry was second followed by third place Florida Southern (315-320=635). South Carolina-Upstate (349-344=693) finished fourth and Flagler rounded out the top five with a two-round 725 (372-353) score.
Three players paved the way for Barry all finishing tied for sixth out of 40 individuals. Johanna Soderstrom (75-82), RemiJin Camping (76-81), and Shannon Langhardt (77-80) all carded identical two-round 157 scores to lead the Buccaneers, while Michelle Torry rounded out the team score with a two-round 160 (81-79) score. Kelly Kronen fired a first-round 84, but withdrew in the final round.
Florida Tech’s Daniela Jacobelli fired a second round one-under-par 71 and finished as the tournament individual medalist with a two-round 148 (77-71) score which was three strokes ahead of the field.
The Buccaneers will return to the links on Oct. 23-24 at the NSU Fall Classic hosted at PGA National in Palm Beach, Fla.
