DUNCAN, Okla. – Hernan Borja (Jr., Kingwood, Texas) finished 15th out of 45 individuals to lead the Barry University men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA South/South Central Regional tournament hosted at the Territory Golf Club by Cameron University on Wednesday.

Florida Southern captured the South Region championship with a stellar seven-under-par 857 (278-291-288) team score through three rounds. Lynn finished just four strokes back with a three-round 861 (291-287-283) score in second place. Both teams will advance to the NCAA National Tournament to represent the South Region, May 16-19 in Daniels, W.V. North Alabama (292-293-290=875) finished third, while West Florida (293-289-295=877) and Rollins (293-289-295=877) battled neck and neck the entire way and finished tied for fourth to round out the top five teams.

Borja was the Buccaneers’ most consistent player on the links for the regional tournament posting a four-over-par 220 score through two rounds. The first two days he carded identical 74 rounds and fired an even-par 72 in the final round to finish 15th leading Barry.  Victor Billskoog (79-73-73=225) and Nick Gillaspy (69-80-76=225) finished tied for 23rd overall, while Jack Ehlers finished 38th with a three-round 230 (75-77-78) score. Tony Bosken rounded out the Buccaneer team score tied for 42nd with a three-round 235 (78-77-80).

West Florida's Will Grace claimed medalist honors in the South and earned the Super Regional's individual at-large bid to the national tournament. Grace shot a 69 on Wednesday for a three-round total of 208 (-8), defeating Heath Jones of North Alabama and Rollins College's Dan Walters by one stroke.

The Buccaneers conclude their 2006 season, but will be back on the links in the fall for another run at the national tournament.
