Men's Golf Finish Tied at 12 at Coker Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Barry University men’s golf team started their 2005-06 campaign with a slow start at the Coker Invitational hosted at the Orange County National Country Club. The Buccaneers finished tied for 12th  with host Coker College out of 17 teams with a two-round score of 589 (295-294).
 
Florida Southern held on to their first round lead to capture the tournament medals firing a two round 560 (277-283) score, while West Florida finished just two strokes back with a 564 (284-280) in second place. Rollins (283-291) and Columbus State (279-295) fired identical two-round 574 scores and finished tied for third, while St. Edwards (Texas) rounded out the top five carding a two-round 577 (290-287) score.
 
Barry’s Hernan Borja (74-71) fired a second round one-under-par 71 and finished tied for 23rd out of 90 to lead the Buccaneer field with a 145 one-over-par score, while John Quigley finished tied at 33 with a two-round 146 (71-75). Nick Gillaspy (78-73) and Matt Jonah (72-79) carded the same two-round 151 score, while finishing seven strokes over par and tied at 58. Tony Bosken (78-75) rounded out the Buccaneer team scores with a two-round 153.
 
Florida Southern’s Greg Koch finished 10 strokes under par with a pair of 67 scores in both rounds to capture the tournament’s individual medalist honors. Delta State’s Kevin Jones (68-68) and Rollins’ Tim Aquaviva (66-70) both finished tied for second at eight strokes under.
 
The Barry men’s golf team will return to the links Oct. 3-4 at the Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga.
