COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Barry University men’s golf team moved up four spots on the final day of the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational and finished tied for ninth out of 18 teams. The Buccaneers carded a three-round 891 (298-302-291) score earlier today at the Country Club of Columbus.
Two-time defending national champions South Carolina-Aiken walked away with the tournament championship with a three-round 859 (278-284-297) seven strokes over-par score, while Armstrong Atlantic followed 2 strokes back carding a three-round score of 861 (290-284-287). Third-place Pfeiffer (296-284-288=868) finished one stroke ahead of fourth-place West Florida (293-287-289=869), while Columbus State carded a three-round 871 (293-290-288) score to move up to the fifth spot.
After finishing the first round tied at 58, Barry’s Hernan Borja (77-69-72=218) fired a second-round two-under-par 69 and finished five strokes over par and tied for 15th to lead the Buccaneer squad. Victor Billskoog (73-80-70=226) shaved 13 strokes off his second-round performance in the final round carding a one-under-par 70 and finished tied for 43rd out of 90 along with teammate Ramon Zablah (75-78-73=226). John Quigley (73-78-76=227). John Quigley finished one stroke behind Billskoog and Zablah with a three-round score of 227 (73-78-76), while Chris Davis (85-77-80=242) rounded out the Buccaneer five tied for 87th.
South Carolina-Aiken's Scott Brown carded a three-round seven-under-par 206 (67-68-71) to move capture the tournament individual medalist honors.
The Buccaneers will return to action on Oct. 10-11 at the Spartan Invitational hosted at the Rogers Park Golf Course in Tampa, Fla.
