Volleyball Spears Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (12-8) sank the host Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (14-8) earlier tonight 3-1 at the Rubin Arena. Barry won 30-25, 30-23, 26-30, 30-18.
 
Michele Rosamiglia (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) guided the Bucs to a .390 team attack percentage and Jentry Redinger (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) pounded out seven kills to lead Barry to a 30-25 game one win. In the second game, Kelly Dantas (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Samara de Freitas (So., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) collected five kills apiece to lift Barry to a 30-23 win.
 
In game three however, the Sailfish out hit the Bucs .342 to .289 and came from behind to win 30-26 sending the match into a game four. However, the Buccaneers stood behind Nicole Castera’s (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) perfect five for five attacking, and capitalized on several Sailfish mistakes for the 30-18 win to take the match 3-1.
 
Redinger picked up her fifth double-double of the season leading the Bucs with 17 kills, 12 digs and registered a .389 attack percentage. De Freitas followed with 16 kills and hit a .464 clip to lead all starters, while Castera and Dantas followed with 14 and 10 kills respectively. Rosamiglia dished out 54 assists and collected 16 digs, while Spenser Rigg added a match-high 21 digs. Lauren Evans came in off the bench to add 11 digs. The Bucs also hit .301 as a team to Palm Beach Atlantic’s .154.
 
Four Sailfish registered double-digit kills led by Brittany Erickson’s 13. Chrissy Gulden added 12, while Ali Mitchell and Kristen Mock added 11 and 10 respectively. Ashley Bonvento dished out 44 assists for the Sailfish, while Whitney Warren collected a team-high 17 digs.
 
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 hosting Armstrong Atlantic at the Health & Sports Center at 7 pm.
