MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The 20th-ranked Barry University volleyball team (10-7, 5-1 SSC) picked up an uplifting 3-0 win over the visiting Nova Southeastern Knights (3-11, 0-6 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference play earlier tonight at the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers won all three games 30-21, 30-26, 30-16.

In the first game, Samara de Freitas (So., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) Jentry Redinger (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Michelle Rycroft (So., Satellite Beach, Fla.) each collected four kills apiece to help lead the Bucs. Although Nova’s Melinda Gorman hit a blistering .571 clip and collected five kills, it wasn’t enough for the Knights as Barry cruised for a 30-21 win in the set.

In game two, de Freitas and Redinger continued their superb play with eight and six kills respectively to help lift the Bucs 30-26 over the Knights. In the final set, the disparity was too great for the Knights as they hit -.031 in the three to the Bucs’ .393 team attack percentage. Barry dominated the final set 30-16.

Coming off one her best matches in three seasons with the Bucs, Redinger hit an impressive .591 clip and collected 14 kills to help lead the Bucs. De Freitas added 15 kills and a .524 hitting percentage, while Nicole Castera pounded out 11 kills. Michele Rosamiglia (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) dished out 41 assists and guided the Bucs to a .368 team attack percentage and Spenser Rigg (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai’i) added a match-high 12 digs.

Gorman was the only player to register double-digit kills and added a .550 attack percentage to lead the Knights. Jenny Fitch added 16 assists, while Karla Ortiz collected seven digs.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Friday, Oct. 7 to take on Florida Southern in conference action at 7 pm.
