WINTER PARK, Fla. – The 25th-ranked Barry University volleyball team (11-8, 6-2 SSC) rebounded from last night’s lost with a 3-0 win over the Rollins Tars (16-7, 3-5 SSC) earlier today at Warden Arena. The Buccaneers won all three sets 30-25, 30-23, 30-27.
Samara de Freitas (So., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Kelly Dantas (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) collected five and four kills respectively, while Dantas hit a .600 clip in game one to lead the Bucs 30-25 over the Tars. In the second set, Nicole Castera (Jr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) hit .600 and registered six kills and Meisje-Sable Burton (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) picked up five kills and hit .625 to give Barry the 30-23 win. In the final game, de Freitas added six more kills onto her team-high total and the Buccaneers carried out a 30-27 in set three to win the match, 3-0.
Michele Rosamiglia (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) set the Buccaneers back on target directing the team to a .338 team attack percentage, while dishing out a match-high 41 assists. She also hit a .500 clip to lead all hitters, while de Freitas added 15 kills to lead the Bucs. Castera and Dantas collected 12 and 11 kills, while Spenser Rigg (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai’i) and Jentry Redinger (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) recorded 16 and 12 digs respectively.
Rollins’ Amy Barlow hit a .364 clip and led the Tars with a match-high 16 kills. Stephanie Nichols added 13 kills, while Kim Cline and Julia Caner collected 17 and 11 digs each. Lacey Malarky collected 37 assists to lead the team.
The Buccaneers will travel up the east coast next Tuesday to take on nearby foe Palm Beach Atlantic in West Palm Beach, Fla. at 7 pm.
