Volleyball Rocks Tritons, 3-1

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – After a slow start, the 18th-ranked Barry University volleyball team (7-5, 2-0 SSC) extended their current win streak to four matches with a 3-1 win over the Eckerd Tritons (8-4, 2-1 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action earlier today at the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers won 30-19, 30-23, 21-30, 30-24.
 
In the first game, Nicole Castera (Jr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) collected eight kills and hit a blistering .800 clip as the Bucs sailed to a 30-19 win. In the second set, the Bucs collected 21 team kills for a 30-23 win.
 
Ahead 2-0 heading into the third game, the Buccaneer offense faltered hitting .022 as a team to the Tritons’ .212 team attack percentage and fell 30-21. However, Michelle Rycroft (So., Satellite Beach, Fla.) hit a .714 clip and collected five kills and Jentry Redinger (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) collected four kills and hit .571 in the fourth game to lift Barry 30-24 over the Tritons to win the match 3-1.
 
Castera collected a career-high 21 kills and hit .280 for the match to lead Barry in the win, while Samara de Freitas (So., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) followed with 15 kills. Redinger collected her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs and Rycroft collected 11 kills. Michele Rosamiglia (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) dished out 58 assists and Spenser Rigg (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai’i) led the Bucs’ defense with 18 digs.
 
Both Keisha Carter and Angela White led the Tritons with 11 kills each, while Shannon Ruby dished out a team-high 20 assists. Kristy Busse led the Triton defense with 19 digs.
 
The Buccaneers return to action on Friday, Sept. 23 hosting long-time conference rival Tampa at 7 pm.
