MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The 17th-ranked Barry University volleyball team (7-6, 2-1 SSC) fell to the seventh-ranked Tampa Spartans (12-2, 2-0 SSC) earlier tonight 3-0 in Sunshine State Conference action at the Health & Sports Center. The Spartans ended the Bucs 19-match home court win streak 30-22, 30-18, 30-19.
Katelen Dixon hit a .417 clip and collected six kills to lead the Spartans past the Bucs 30-22 in the first set. In the second game, she continued to take advantage of the Buccaneer defense and collected seven kills and hit a .545 attack percentage. In the final set, Ericka Womack took her turn for the Spartans and hit a blistering .833 and collected five kills to lift the Spartans to the 30-19 win.
The Buccaneers tied the Spartans on 19 different occasions and led only twice the entire match. Tampa also hit a blistering .445 team attack percentage to Barry’s .161.
Barry’s Samara de Frietas (So., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the Barry attack with 11 kills and a .364 attack percentage, while Nicole Castera (Jr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 10 kills. Castera and Spenser Rigg (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai’i) led the Bucs with 12 digs apiece, while Michele Rosamiglia (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) dished out 31 assists.
Dixon led the Spartans with 14 kills, while Womack and Stephanie Rivera each followed with 13. Womack also hit a match-high .650 attack percentage. Gabriela Saade dished out a match-high 47 assists, while Margeaux Sinibaldi collected 14 digs.
Barry will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 hosting the Saint Leo Lions in another SSC match-up at 4 pm.
