DAVIE, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (16-8, 9-2 SSC) extended their win streak to six matches with a 3-0 win over the Nova Southeastern Sharks (5-18, 1-12 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference play earlier tonight at the George Mayer Gym. The Buccaneers won all three sets 30-26, 30-24, 30-21.
Samara de Freitas (So., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) ignited the Bucs’ 30-26 charge in the first set with 8 kills and Nicole Castera (Jr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) added six to lead Barry to an early one game lead over the host Sharks. The Buccaneer defense controlled the second game holding Nova Southeastern to a .024 team attack percentage taking the set 30-24. With a two-game lead, Barry’s Michele Rosamiglia (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) guided the team to a blistering .419 clip as the Bucs reeled in the match with a 30-21 win in the final set.
Castera dominated the opposition with 17 kills and led the Buccaneers with a .452 attack percentage, while de Freitas and Jentry Redinger (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Rosamiglia collected her 12th double-double of the season with 44 assists and 13 digs. Spenser Rigg (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai’i) collected a match-high 23 digs and Redinger added 10 digs for the Bucs.
Nova Southeastern’s Karla Ortiz led the Sharks with a team-high 13 kills and a .440 attack percentage, while completing the double-double with 10 digs. Jenny Fitch added a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs.
The Buccaneers will return to action on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 pm hosting Florida Tech at the Health & Sports Center for senior night. The Buccaneers will recognize their two seniors Michele Rosamiglia and Kelly Dantas.
