CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Barry University men's basketball team (3-1) dropped their first game of the season to the Newberry College Indians (4-2) 99-75 earlier tonight at the Sodexho Classic Tournament hosted by Queens (N.C.).

The Indians started the first half with a 9-0 run before the Buccaneers could radar their own basket. However, Barry's Melvin Triche finally found it and scored 13 first-half points to keep the team deficit to eight points at the break, 45-37. The Buccaneers fired just over 37 percent from the floor in the period, while Newberry notched 60 percent.

In the second period, Triche erupted with 21 of the Bucs' 38 second half points. However, the Indians scored 54 in the second period and eased out in front with a 99-75 win.

Trice scored a career-best 34 points to lead the Buccaneers. He finished the game 11 of 22 from the field, and a perfect 11 of 11 at the free throw line, while collecting a game-high 11 rebounds. Felipe Barrios finished 4 of 12 from the field with 10 points and six rebounds for Barry.

Newberry had four players to score double figure points. They were led by Zach Chandler with 21, while Alonzo Hinds added 17. Sammy Monoroe and Clemente Martin chipped in 14 and 10 points respectively.

The Indians finished the game 33 of 59 from the floor shooting just under 56 percent, while the Bucs hit 25 of 72 attempts for 34.7 percent from the field.
